The marine radio operates on select number of unique frequencies in the VHF -  Very High Frequency range. The frequency of operation will determined by the channel number selected on the radio.  See Channel page for a listing of channels and their usages.

The radio uses FM is vertical polarization - the antenna needs to vertical to the horizon to be efficient.

Hand held radios transmit with 1 watt and 5 watt modes.

Base Marine Radios operate with 5 and 25 watt modes.

FM - Frequency modulated  - Vertical Polarization  the antenna needs to be vertical with the horizon to be efficient

Simplex operation - one talker ever one else listens.
